Ogeechee Tech Team Fares Well in Competition

Ogeechee Technical College’s SkillsUSA team recently attended the SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary State Conference in Atlanta. Twenty-two students and six advisors represented the College at the annual convention. Contests in leadership, occupational, and technical science were held at Atlanta Technical College, while skilled and trade contests took place at the Georgia International Convention Center. Ogeechee Tech’s team participated in thirteen competitions and received nine medals, including three gold, four silver, and two bronze awards. Dr. Ryan Foley, Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs said, “There was fierce competition but our students prevailed!”

Gold medals were presented to Nancy Durfee, Early Childhood Education, Tiffany Rettinger and Daniel Corsivo, Information Technology Systems, and Johnathan Bishop, Interworking. Silver medals were awarded to Allisa Alexander, Practical Nursing, Rachel Corbin, Health Occupations Professional Portfolio, Nicholas Thorne, Automotive Service Technology, and Stewart Jarrell, Industrial Motor Controls. Bronze medals were awarded to Calevin Collins, Health Occupations Professional Portfolio, and Kaitlyn Shipes, Mikayla Haigh, Robert Woodie, Eliott Mooney, John Todd, Mark Olsson, and Maggie Morrow for Quiz Bowl.

The faculty in attendance were Charlie Collins, Paula Clifton, Terry Hand, Jackie Howard, Club Advisor, Allen McDaniel, Club Advisor, and Norm Threatt.  In addition, OTC President, Lori Durden, and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Ryan Foley, attended to cheer on the participants.
Each of the gold winners advance to the National SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
