Meet the Faculty

Tina Welch, MA, RDMS, RVT, RCS, RT, (R)

Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Programs Director/Instructor

Tina Welch has been a full time instructor in the Sonography programs at Ogeechee Technical College for 10 years. She began her professional career in Radiologic Technology. She has received an Associate of Science degree from Medical College of Georgia in Radiologic Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Hospital College of Health Science in Sonography. She most recently earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Ashford University. Tina is an active member of Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Tina has held many positions in her many years of imaging ranging from staff radiographer/sonographer to department manager.

The Echocardiography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP, upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS, CAAHEP may be contacted at 25400 U.S. Highway 19 North, Suite 158, Clearwater, FL 33763, Phone 727.210.2350.

Ultrasound Program graduates are eligible to sit for national certification examinations for sonographers and are prepared to function as professionals in the sonography field. Program graduates are to be competent in the general areas of communications, algebra, interpersonal relations, and anatomy and physiology. Program graduates are competent to perform imaging examinations and accompanying responsibilities assigned to a sonographer at the direction of physicians qualified to request and/or perform sonographic procedures.

All students entering the Echocardiography program must meet the core requirements outlined in the Health Care Assistant-Sonography Track Certificate.

PSB Exam

Schedule your exam: Students can schedule themselves for the exam by going online to this link and clicking on the “Schedule Now” button. They just need to make sure that they sign up for the one that says PSB Health Occupations (not PSB LPN).


Graduates of the Echocardiography program are eligible to sit for either the American Registry of Cardiac Sonographers (Adult Echocardiography) examination or the Non-Invasive/Echo Registry examination given by Cardiovascular Credentialing International to become a Registered

Ogeechee Technical College's Echocardiography program pass rate for the SPI exam is 100%, and Adult Echocardiography is 60%. Both of these surpass the ARDMS National Pass Rate.

Program Goals

The goal of the Ogeechee Technical College Echocardiography program is to:

To prepare competent entry-level adult cardiac sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

The statewide TCSG goals of the Echocardiography programs are to:

  1. Provide education that acknowledges individual differences and respects the rights of individuals to seek fulfillment of educational needs.

  2. Provide an environment that encourages the individual to benefit and contribute as a partner in the economic progress, development, and stability of Georgia.

  3. Provide education that develops the potential of each student to become a productive, responsible, and upwardly mobile member of society.

  4. Provide quality Echocardiography education in an atmosphere that fosters interest in and enthusiasm for learning.

  5. Prepare graduates to function as accountable and responsible members with in their field of endeavor.

  6. Prepare graduates to function as safe and competent practitioners in Echocardiography.

  7. Prepare program graduates with the highest level of competence possible given the constraints of the interests and ability levels of the individual.

  8. Provide educational and related services without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, handicapping condition, academic disadvantage, or economic disadvantage.

  9. Foster employer participation, understanding, and confidence in the instructional process and the competence to echocardiography program graduates.

  10. Provide guidance to DMS and Echocardiography students to assist them in pursuing educational opportunities that maximize their professional potential.

  11. Encourage program graduates to recognize and to act upon individual needs for continuing education as a function of growth and maintenance of professional competence.

Attendance is a prerequisite for application to the DMS program. Attendance is highly recommended prior to making the decision to pursue a career as a sonographer.
