Seamless Education Opportunities

Check out our High School Dual & Joint Enrollment Guide

Mission of Tech Prep

To provide high school students an opportunity to participate in a seamless educational system that includes high-level academic and technical preparation for workforce readiness and lifelong learning.  It is a program which provides a student with an individual career plan; incorporates academic and career-related courses aligned (articulated) between secondary and post secondary level and; leads to a college certificate, diploma, associate degree or apprenticeship. Students may take advantage of the Tech Prep program from Ogeechee Technical College in three ways:

• Articulation
• Dual Enrollment
• Joint Enrollment

What is articulation?

Articulation allows high school students to transfer credit for certain high school course work to technical colleges in Georgia.  To be eligible for articulation the student must be accepted to Ogeechee Technical College within 24 months of graduation from high school.  For specific questions regarding articulation please contact our Registrar's Office at 912.486.7784.

What is dual enrollment?

Dual enrollment allows high school students to begin a post secondary program in their chosen career field while they are still in high school.  It allows students to earn credit at both the high school and the technical college while they are still in high school. Courses are taught by an Ogeechee Technical College instructor. To be eligible to participate in dual enrollment, students must meet all technical college admission requirements for their selected program (such as testing and age requirements).

Dual/Joint Enrollment Procedures

  1. Student speaks with counselor to determine eligibility.

  2. Student fills out application for admission, and checks either the “dual” or “joint” enrolled box on the front and selects program of study.

  3. Student has parent/guardian sign the back of the application.

  4. Student submits official copy of high school transcript

  5. Student takes COMPASS (unless student has high enough SAT/ACT scores that come in on transcript)

  6. Student is notified of next available registration and orientations sessions that they must attend.

  7. Student begins school.

What is joint enrollment?

Joint enrollment is when a high school student takes college credit courses while attending high school.  The college credit received is only counted at the college.  The admissions and funding issues are the same as for dual enrollment.

Can I receive financial aid while attending for a dual enrollment or joint enrollment program?

High school students attending as a dual enrollment or joint enrollment student may be eligible to receive HOPE.  To be eligible a student must be accepted and be pursuing a program of study.  For information regarding personal eligibility for HOPE please review the HOPE section on the website.  Georgia's Hope Grant
