OTC Students Build Halloween Project
Ogeechee Technical College

Students in the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) class at Ogeechee Technical College recently completed an Automated Monster-in-a-box project just in time for Halloween. Clay Martin, an adjunct instructor, built the box and assisted the students. The prop box, currently housed in the hallway outside the Electrical Lab, is equipped with an MP3 player to provide spooky sounds. The computer that runs the box is inside the electrical lab. A PLC controls air valves to make the box shake, open, and close. It even has a skeleton hand to surprise people. Norm Threatt, Electrical Systems Technology instructor, said, “This is a great, hands-on project to teach air valves and PLCs. It’s interesting for the students and it’s cost effective. Most of all, it’s fun!”
