Circulation Services

Library materials are available for student, faculty and staff check out. An Ogeechee Technical College student ID is required for student check out. All students must adhere to the posted rules regarding the library facilities and computer resources. The loan period for students to check out books and other print items is two weeks. Faculty and staff are permitted to check out material for the entire quarter. All materials are due at the end of each quarter.  Failure to return materials will result in holds on student records.

Reference items cannot be checked out. Reference materials include such items as encyclopedias, almanacs, periodicals, indexes, atlases, and any other publications designated as reference.

Reserve and Teacher's Reserve

Instructors can house course materials within the library to be loaned to their students. Loan periods for these resources are determined by the instructor.

Reference Services

The library staff at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) is dedicated to serving its library patrons to fulfill their informational needs. Special assistance will be given to patrons who are unfamiliar with the advanced technological information retrieval systems.

Bibliographic Instruction

Bibliographic instruction is presented to students during each term. Sessions can be scheduled in the library or within a classroom. Instructors are encouraged to incorporate library activities within their curriculum. Bibliographic instruction, along with an online orientation and reference services, are made available to all online students through Angel which is currently used to facilitate distance education classes for OTC online students.

Instructors may schedule workshops, tours, and bibliographic instructions during the academic term. Please send in your requests for bibliographic Instruction one week in advance. Instructors may visit the library or send request via email to jlanier@ogeecheetech.edu.

Copier

A Xerox copier is available in the library media center for student use. Copies are 5 cents per copy.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is an agreement among participating libraries to make certain materials, books, dissertations, journal articles, etc., available to member libraries upon request. This agreement for “resource sharing” gives library patrons access to far more materials than any one library could hold. The Ogeechee Technical College Library Media Center searches its own collection first and then searches the WorldCat database to locate and borrow materials owned by other US, Canadian and European libraries. Some material may not be available for request since many loans are based on the lending institution lending policy.

To request materials from Interlibrary Loan, complete the online Interlibrary Loan Request form at the following links: Book Request Form, Article Request Form. Interlibrary loan material will be ordered on a first come first serve basis. Materials may be requested in person at the circulation desk.

Intercampus Borrowing

Intercampus borrowing is a service available to all OTC faculty, staff, and students. Patrons from the main campus and other off-site locations may borrow circulating materials from the Main location. To request materials, students can use our Intercampus Borrowing Request Form.

Getting Started

Library Card

Your student ID card is your library card! All OTC students get an ID Card. It is also your library borrowing card, so bring it with you to the Library.   Make sure you wear or have your ID with you at all times when on campus.

Questions about your library account or about borrowing books? Send an e-mail message library@ogeecheetech.edu. For account inquiries, include your name and the bar code number on your ID Card.

Library Location

New to OTC? The library is located in the Joseph Kennedy Building.

When you enter the front entrance, turn left. Go down the hall past the auditorium, past the print center, and the library will be on your right in room 348.

Library Hours

The library is open 8:00am - 8:00pm Monday through Thursday during the term. The hours may vary between terms.

 Borrow & Renew

Borrowing

Present your ID-card to borrow materials. You are the only person who's authorized to use your card and you are responsible for all library transactions made with it.

Loan Periods & Due Dates

Items may normally be borrowed by students for 14 days, and renewed up to a maximum of six times unless requested by another borrower. You may borrow up to 5 items at one time.

The book is in the library catalog, but doesn’t seem to be available…

When in doubt, ask a librarian, who can check the situation for you. You can arrange to request the item.

Hold/Recall Item — You can place a hold on an item if it is currently checked out so that you can be the next person to borrow it.

Inter-Campus Borrowing — You can ask that books be brought between the campuses for you to pick up at the campus of your choice.

What if the OTC Library doesn’t have that book?

Borrow directly from another local library — OTC students can borrow books from the libraries of GSU and the Statesboro Regional Library.   The librarian can request a book for you.

Request an inter-library loan — Being a member of OCLC allows us to request books and articles not currently in the OTC Library from another library. To request materials from Interlibrary Loan, complete the online Interlibrary Loan Request form at the following links: Book Request Form, Article Request Form.

Request that the library acquire an item for the library — Let us know of any books (or other items) that you think we should order for our library collections.

Renewing

As an OTC borrower, you may renew library materials (excluding reserves) if an item has not been requested by another borrower. You can renew library items in two ways:

  • renew through email by sending the title, your id number to the librarian
  • renew in person at the circulation desk

Returning Library Materials

Library materials must be returned on or before the date and/or time due. Library materials should be returned to the circulation desk.
