A group of Agribusiness students and instructor Elliott Marsh from Ogeechee Technical College recently traveled to Atlanta to learn more about how State policy is made, tour the Capitol, and visit the Georgia Department of Agriculture.  Students had the opportunity to meet with area legislators to learn about important issues which may be affecting them in the near future.  The students and Marsh also had the opportunity to meet with Governor Sonny Perdue, as well as having a private meeting with Senator Jack Hill to discuss the process involved with having a State law enacted.

While at the Capitol, students also met with Jeffrey Harvey, Assistant Legislative Director and Tas Smith, Legislative Specialist for the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation.  Harvey and Smith talked with the students about how they work with legislators and agricultural groups to support Georgia farmers’ needs in the state.

The group toured the Georgia Department of Agriculture to learn more about the testing, public relations, and research that is being done in Atlanta for agriculture in Georgia.   While at the Department of Agriculture, students saw many different divisions, such as animal health, seed certification, and consumer protection.
