Children from the two-year-old and three-year-old classrooms of the Child Enrichment Center (CEC) recently toured the Health Sciences building at Ogeechee Technical College. The group visited the Opticianry lab as well as the Medical Assisting lab. Next week, they will visit the Dental Assisting lab.
These tours give the children a chance to visit a “non-threatening” healthcare environment according to Marilyn Turner, Medical Assisting Instructor at Ogeechee Tech. In the Opticianry lab, the children were shown different types of glasses and were able to sit in the exam chair. In the Medical Assisting lab, they were all weighed and measured. Each child had a chance to take their temperature with the electronic thermometer. They also got to wear gloves and band aids.
“This is an exciting visit for the children, but also gives the health students an opportunity to interact with the children. Plus, the interaction may diminish some fears that children have when they visit the doctor,” said Mrs. Turner. For information on the Health programs at Ogeechee Tech, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu. |
