Ogeechee Tech President Named to Accreditation Executive Committee

Dr. Dawn H. Cartee, President of Ogeechee Technical College, has been named to the Commission Executive Committee of the Council on Occupational Education (COE).  According to information provided by COE, “Throughout its history, the Council and its predecessor agency have been recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a reliable authority on the quality of education offered by the institutions it has accredited. Its current scope of recognition is as a national institutional accrediting agency for the accreditation of non-degree-granting and applied associate degree-granting postsecondary occupational education institutions.”  Ogeechee Tech is currently accredited by COE.

As a member of the Commission Executive Committee, Cartee will have the authority to act on behalf of the Commission concerning all governance and accreditation matters when the Commission is not in session, subject to the approval of the Commission.  Responsibilities of the Committee include making nominations for all vacancies on the Commission which are created because of the resignation or removal of a Commissioner, serving as a Commission Nominating Committee and making nominations for membership on all Commission standing committees, and nominating persons to be elected to the Council Committee on Nominations.

Committee members also elect a five-person Council Appeal Board, including one member as a Council Appeal Board Chair and another as Vice-Chair.  The Committee will serve as the search and screening committee for the position of the chief executive officer of the Council and Commission, and will approve special projects.  In addition, the Committee will oversee and evaluate annually the performance of the chief executive officer serving the Commission and the Council, and approve recommendations by the Finance Committee regarding budget matters, including membership dues and fees, employee salary schedule, and annual audit.  Finally, the Committee will review institutional complaints and provide input for their resolution.

In commenting on her appointment to the Committee Cartee said, “It is an honor to be asked to serve in this capacity with COE.  Aside from the obvious importance of helping assure the standards of all colleges accredited by COE this affiliation will give me even greater insight in ensuring that Ogeechee Tech continues to meet all requirements for accreditation.”  “Our processes for maintaining high standards of instruction are on-going, but being directly involved with a national commission which sets the standards for accreditation will provide a higher level of awareness for us locally,” Cartee further stated.
