Ogeechee Tech Instructor Receives Award for Excellence in Teaching
Donna Hooley, who joined Ogeechee Technical College’s General Education Department in 2000, won the Dorothy Golden Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Composition at the 10th Annual Student Success in First-Year Composition Conference. She received the award at the conference banquet on February 1, 2008 at Georgia Southern University. Hooley received a crystal bowl, a certificate, and a cash award. The Conference’s first Golden Award recipient, Dr. Charlotte Crittenden, announced this year’s winner. The award is sponsored by Georgia Southern University’s Department of Writing and Linguistics; in attendance were English faculty from Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, as well as a contingent of visiting professors from India. Ogeechee Tech Dean John Groover and his English faculty, including Dr. Michele Taylor, Pat Murphey, and Matthew Gainous, were at the banquet. Matthew serves on the Conference’s organizational committee, which this year was co-chaired by GSU Professors Nancy Dessommes and Ellen Hendrix. Hooley earned a Master of Arts degree in English from Georgia Southern; she was also Georgia Southern’s Professor of the Year in 1999. “We are so proud of Donna’s accomplishment,” stated Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Technical College. “We know we have top quality instructors here at Ogeechee Tech, and having Donna receive this award is confirmation of that fact,” Cartee further commented.
