German Exchange Students
A group of German high school students visited Ogeechee Technical College recently to learn about programs of study offered at the College. Jim Shepherd, German Instructor at Screven County High School, developed the German American Partnership Program over 10 years ago. Housed in homes in the Screven County area, the students from Germany actually attend classes at Screven High during the “true” exchange. In return, Screven County will send a group of high school students to Germany in May to reside in the homes of the German students who participated in the program here in the United States. While they do not receive credit for classes, the Screven students will be counted present for class during their three-week stay in Germany. German students attend 13 years of school before graduating onto their designated track for post-secondary education. This group of exchange students is university bound, and therefore expressed a desire to see both Ogeechee Technical College and Georgia Southern University while in Georgia. On Saturday, the students travel to New York City for a brief stay before returning to their home country. Jeanne Anne Marsh, Stay In School Coordinator at Ogeechee Tech, coordinated the visit to the OTC campus. Contact: Barry Turner |
