Ogeechee Tech Holds
Ogeechee Technical College and the Ogeechee Tech Foundation, Inc. held a scholarship banquet recently to recognize students who received scholarships through the Foundation during the past year. Donors of scholarships were also on hand for the event, including Mrs. Jane Cox, the benefactor of what is currently the only endowed scholarship maintained by the Foundation. There were 27 scholarships given, and many of the recipients were on hand to be recognized at the dinner. Dr. Bill Perry was the keynote speaker for the evening, and provided words of encouragement and challenge for the recipients. Diane Lockett, a Culinary Arts student at Ogeechee Tech, was present to provide a student’s perspective on receiving support through a Foundation scholarship. Lockett received the Philip Stewart Memorial Scholarship for Culinary Arts students. Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Beth Mathews, said, “This is the first scholarship banquet our Foundation has ever held to recognize the recipients and benefactors. We plan for this to become an annual event.” Scholarships are provided to assist students with tuition, books and supplies, clinical supplies and uniforms, travel to clinical sites, and a variety of other needs that may exist for students during their study at Ogeechee Tech. “We have so many deserving students. I hope that in the future we can have even more scholarships available, to assist even more students,” stated Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Tech. Support for scholarships comes from a variety of sources, including contributions made through the Foundation’s annual iGot (I Gave to Ogeechee Tech) campaign.
