State Board Chair Carl Swearingen
Mr. Carl Swearingen, Chair of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education for Georgia, visited Ogeechee Technical College on March 25 to address employees of the College, as well as local OTC Board members. Following a luncheon in Swearingen’s honor, a tour of the campus was conducted to allow Swearingen to see the various programs available at Ogeechee Tech. The Chairman met with a number of College administrators and faculty members one-on-one to discuss first-hand the needs of the College, and the Chairman’s vision for the College and the System in general. “We are delighted to have Mr. Swearingen here at Ogeechee Tech. It only takes a few seconds of conversation with him to clearly understand his passion for technical and adult education in Georgia,” stated Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Tech. In remarks to the group assembled at the luncheon, Swearingen made clear his vision that employees of the College should focus on strong customer service in providing for students’ needs. He also expressed his firm belief in the value of what technical colleges provide in the way of training and economic development. In speaking to the employees of Ogeechee Tech, Swearingen stated, “You provide the tools that people need to be successful, to provide for their families, and to have the kind of life that we all hope for. Our mission at the State Board level is to provide the tools and support necessary for you to do your job.” Ogeechee Technical College local Board Chair Tommy David was on-hand to greet Swearingen, and in making closing comments at the luncheon expressed his enthusiasm for all that Ogeechee Tech does for its service area by saying, “We are so fortunate to have this Technical College serving Bulloch, Evans, and Screven Counties, but what many do not realize is the far-reaching impact this College has on the State of Georgia. We have students at Ogeechee Tech from all over the State of Georgia and beyond, and we have graduates serving in many different capacities in countless locations.” Swearingen was in Statesboro to speak at the Deen Day Smith Awards dinner, in addition to his visit to Ogeechee Tech. “We invite Mr. Swearingen back to our campus any time. We are very grateful to have a State Board Chair who is as invested in what we do as he is,” concluded Cartee. Contact: Barry Turner |
