Ogeechee Tech Participates in
Ogeechee Technical College students, faculty, and administrators visited Atlanta recently to participate in the Taste of the Technical Colleges, an event sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia, to spotlight the work of the state’s technical colleges for legislators in Georgia. Culinary programs from several of the state’s technical colleges, along with a number of other programs from the colleges, were on hand at the Georgia Freight Depot near the State Capitol building for the evening reception.
Representatives of Culinary Arts and Veterinary Technology programs from Ogeechee Tech were on hand to represent the College. Students from Culinary Arts provided Pacific Northwest cuisine for legislators, Technical College System representatives, and others, and provided information about the dishes being served. Vet Tech students were present to enlighten attendees about their profession of choice, and about the program of study at Ogeechee Tech. Several instructors and administrators from Ogeechee Tech were also present to provide support for the students, and to visit with the large number of legislators and others at the event. Ogeechee Tech’s Vet Tech mascot, “Perdie”, was also on hand to entertain attendees, and was the hit of the event.
Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Tech, stated, “This is always such as great event. We have a wonderful opportunity to exhibit to legislators the quality of programs and students that are prevalent at the state’s technical colleges and certainly at Ogeechee Tech.” “The interaction our students have with those in attendance provides a platform for the students to express their enthusiasm about their programs of study,” Cartee further commented. Instructors accompanying the students were Culinary Arts instructor Bryan Richard, Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism Management instructor John Witherington, Vet Tech instructor Dr. Janice Grumbles, and Vet Tech instructor, and Perdie’s owner, Billie Walker. In addition to Dr. Cartee, Beth Mathews, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and Barry Turner, Executive Director of Public Relations, also attended. Contact: Barry Turner |
