Wildlife Students Assist with Preparations for Wounded Warrior Bass Tournament
Students from Ogeechee Tech’s Wildlife and Plantation Management program traveled to Fort Stewart, Georgia recently to learn fisheries management techniques and participate in electro shocking a pond. Electroshock technology is a commonly used fisheries management method to determine population dynamics of the aquatic ecosystem, however, in this operation there was a dual purpose. Some of the larger bass and pan fish that were temporarily immobilized were netted by the students for transfer to another pond. This pond will soon be the focus of a great deal of excitement as it hosts a fishing event honoring soldiers wounded in battle. Assisting in preparations for the Wounded Warrior Bass Tournament, though not the main focus of the fisheries lab, was certainly a bonus that everyone felt privileged to be a part of.
