Ogeechee Technical College recently received notification that the College ranked sixth, out of the Technical College System of Georgia’s 26 technical colleges, for job placement for fiscal year 2012. Ogeechee Tech recorded a rate of 99.2 percent for total job placement, with 93.1 percent being employed in-field. The impressive job placement rate means Ogeechee Tech’s graduates are benefitting from the education they received at the College, according to Dr. Dawn Cartee, the College’s President. “We are proud of the job placement rate because it not only validates the work we do as a College, but it means our graduates are improving their lives by finding gainful employment,” stated Cartee.
Many of Ogeechee Technical College’s graduates find leads for employment while attending school, according to Cartee. “Many of our programs of study have clinical or internship, requirements which offer prospective employers an excellent opportunity to gauge students’ potential as an employee. Often the students receive offers of employment following their time spent at a clinical or intern site,” stated Cartee.
The report considers those who continue their education as meeting placement requirements, but most are actually employed, while some are employed while continuing their education, according to Ryan Foley, Ogeechee Tech’s Vice President for Student Affairs. The Student Affairs division compiles job placement statistics for the College. “We find that most students either graduate and go to work, or continue their education in order to have even greater employment opportunity when they eventually graduate,” stated Foley.
“Our programs prepare students to enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful,” said Cartee. Many of Ogeechee Tech’s programs represent professions which require some sort of licensure or certification, explained Cartee. “The College does a great job of preparing students for success on those licensure or certification examinations.”
“I think our focus on employability, rather than just graduating students, is a major reason we have a great placement rate. In the end, students’ ability to go to work in their chosen profession is a major mark of success in education,” said Cartee.
