The 2013 State of Georgia SkillsUSA competition was held in Atlanta recently. Ogeechee Technical College had 21 students participate in a variety of events, taking away two gold medals, two silver medals, and a state officer’s position.
The Ogeechee Tech Quiz Bowl team won gold. Team members are James Parry, Kali Wasdin, Jason Phillips, Elizabeth Baker, Christopher Vandenberg, and Ian Winsemius. Dusty Sheppard was the gold medalist in Industrial Motor Control. Timothy Diggs won silver for Computer Maintenance Technology, and Health Occupations Professional Portfolio competitor, Katelin Houlihan, also brought home a silver medal.
At the election of state officers for SkillsUSA, Ogeechee Tech student Jennifer Easley was elected. Easley will take part in operating SkillsUSA at the State level during her tenure as an officer, and will take part in training and evaluation before being assigned a specific officer’s post.
“We are very proud to bring home gold and silver medals, and having a state officer will allow us to have more direct input into the SkillsUSA program,” said SkillsUSA advisor, and Ogeechee Tech Automotive Technology instructor, Allen McDaniel. “Our Skills participants did a great job of representing Ogeechee Tech.” In addition to McDaniel, other SkillsUSA advisors at Ogeechee Tech are Shane Todd, Terry Hand, Kelli Waters, Laura Chambers, Anne Gailey, Norm Threatt, and Heather Blackburn.
