Tuesday, 04 December 2012 11:31
Before coming to Ogeechee Technical College, Amanda Hedrick taught Composition at Georgia Southern University, where she also served as a faculty mentor for the Office of First Year Experience. Before teaching, Amanda held an Administrative Assistant position at Peninsula Gastroenterology in Newport News, Virginia.
Amanda received her Bachelors degree in English from Christopher Newport University in Virginia and her Masters in English from the University of Maine. Tutoring experience in her undergraduate years led her to apply for a teaching assistantship in grad school. Amanda credits this assistantship with her “Ah ha!” moment; she has not left the classroom since.
After leaving the University of Maine, Amanda taught Composition I, Composition II, and First Year Experience courses for three years at Georgia Southern University. While there, she completed the 2010 Georgia Southern Writing Project Invitational Summer Institute and served as Georgia Southern Writing Project Associate Director thereafter. Amanda also facilitated the revision of Georgia Southern’s online First Year Experience curriculum in summer 2012. Amanda’s research interests include professional collaboration, critical thinking, and active learning. Amanda’s continued desire to learn and grow have taken her to Oxford University, a small seminary in the Czech Republic, and various stops around the United States.
Having always wanted to teach in a community or technical college, Amanda is enjoying her new position as English Instructor at Ogeechee Technical College and looking forward to getting to know her students and colleagues better each day. In her free time, Amanda enjoys baking, exercising, crafting, watching 80’s sitcoms, and visiting loved ones in Tennessee and Virginia.
Welcome to Ogeechee Technical College, Amanda!
