I grew up in a small town and was constantly surrounded by a close knit family. I was homeschooled and quite frankly, the idea of a large school scared me. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry but somehow I felt like higher education failed me by not giving me the tools I needed to further my education and my career.
My grandfather was someone I truly admired and he told me that an education is something no one can ever take away. He was a Craftsman by trade and always wanted to teach me the art of welding. Unfortunately, he lost his vision to Macular Degeneration before being able to teach me this skill. I chose Ogeechee Tech’s Welding & Joining Technology Program so that I could pass down this craft through the generations of my family.
My experience at Ogeechee Tech is something that I’ll never forget. The teachers have been amazing and the hands-on interaction has taught me so much more than I would ever learn in a traditional classroom. It really is like family here and for someone like me, that’s a pretty big deal.
I think my Poppa would be proud of my accomplishments.
My name is Kali Wasdin and this is my story.
