Health Information Management Technology





     





General Information

Health Information Management Technology (HIT) is a non-clinical healthcare profession. Students are trained in a variety of health information management functions including: organizing, analyzing, processing and evaluating healthcare data; coding diseases, operations, and procedures; protecting patient privacy and providing information security; enhancing the quality of health record documentation; participating in the planning, design selection, implementation and support for information systems; and managing health information in an electronic environment. HIT professionals work in a multitude of settings throughout the healthcare industry.


Introduction

The Health Information Management Technology (HIT)  program is a sequence of courses designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills necessary to process, maintain, analyze, and report health information data according to legal, accreditation, licensure and certification standards for reimbursement, facility planning, marketing, risk management, utilization management, quality assessment and research; program graduates will develop leadership skills and necessary to serve in a functional supervisory role in various components of the health information system.

Program Purpose Statement


The purpose of the Health Information Management Technology program is to provide educational opportunities to students that will enable them to achieve the knowledge and training necessary to obtain a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) credential and succeed in the Health Information Management field.


Program Goals

In developing the workforce of the citizens of the counties served by OTC, we help to bring economic stimulus and benefit to our students as they complete the HIT program and find positions in the healthcare industry in their local area.
