Meet the Faculty

Deborah DeLoach, LDO, ABOC, NCLC
Opticianry Program Director

Deborah DeLoach is the Director for the Opticianry Program. She is a 1983 graduate of Armstrong State College with a B.S. in Education and, more recently, a 2005 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College with an Associate’s degree in Opticianry. Deborah has worked in a local optical lab and presently works part-time as a Dispensing Licensed Optician. In 2006, she was featured in Vision Monday Optical Magazine ‘s article “The Next Generation of Opticianry Leadership”. She returned to Ogeechee Technical College in July 2007 as the Program Director and was chosen the 2012-2013 Lion of the Year by the Statesboro Lions Club. She is NCLE and ABO certified and holds a Georgia License as a Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO).
Member organizations: NFOS, CLSA, OAA, OAG, where she also serves on the board, & the Statesboro Lions Club.

Scott Lloyd, LDO, ABOC, NCLC
Opticianry Instructor

Scott Lloyd has been an instructor in the Opticianry Program at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro, GA, since 2000. Prior to becoming an instructor, Scott worked in-field for 10 years at Pearle Vision Express. With 23 years of optical experience, Mr. Lloyd brings a wealth of knowledge to his students. Scott is a 2004 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College with an AAT in Healthcare Management; he is also a licensed dispensing optician (LDO) in the state of Georgia. Additionally, he is an active member of the Opticians Association of Georgia and serves on their board of directors.

Learning Objectives

Provide current curriculum, instructional materials and equipment (in accordance with available funding) which teach knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to industry needs.

Provide academic instruction, which supports effective learning within the program and which enhances professional performance on the job.
Provide employability skills which foster work attitudes & work habits that will enable graduates of the program to perform as good employees.

Licensure/Certification

Upon successful completion of the program and passing of the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE), students are eligible to sit for their state licensure exam to become a Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO).

Program Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Opticianry program is to provide entry-level technical skills to students. These basic skills will give students the ability to pass the two national certification tests as well as the state board test for licensure. The program provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical training for students, qualifying them for employment with the following: retail optical stores, wholesale laboratories in addition to optical dispensaries of doctors of Optometry and medical doctors of Ophthalmology.
