Employee Awards

The Ogeechee Technical College Awards Committee consists of the following:
Jan Moore (Vice President for Economic Development), Michelle Davis (Vice President for College Advancement); Karen Mobley (The Executive Assistant to the President), the two most recent recipients of the Instructor of the Year Awards (Casey Corbett, Ray Delva resigned); the two most recent recipients of the Support Staff of the Year Award (Heidi Finch and Laura Bradley); and the two most recent recipients of the Leadership Award ( LeAnne Robinson and Hannah-Joy DiNello); the two most recent recipients of the Adjunct Instructor of the Year (Susan Todd and Gabriel Woods); the two most recent winners of the Diamond Award (Kathryn Finch and Felicia Barefoot) as well as the Rick Perkins Coordinator (Cindy Phillips).
Employee award winners serve a two-year term.


Award recipients will be announced and recognized at the Spring Term Faculty/Staff Meeting with a reception immediately following.


Instructor of the Year (Rick Perkins) Award

The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors technical education’s most outstanding instructors. The award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields.

Nominees must meet the following requirements at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC), regional and state levels:

  1. Represent the Technical College System of Georgia by recognizing technical education’s critical impact on Georgia’s overall economic health; have a strong work ethic, a dedicated sense of loyalty and a healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education;
  2. Employed full-time by OTC as an instructor at the time of nomination, the regional and state level competitions;
  3. Employed full-time as an instructor by OTC for a minimum of three years (by January 1 of the year the state competition is held);
  4. Are in good standing with the College;
  5. Teach in a technical certificate of credit (TCC), diploma, degree, or adult education/GED program;
  6. Have not participated in the regional/state Rick Perkins Award competition in the past three years; and
  7. Have not been a state winner (Instructor of the Year) before.

Adjunct Instructor of the Year Award

The award honors an outstanding part-time instructor who makes significant contributions to the College through teaching, service, and leadership in their fields.

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a strong work ethic, a dedicated sense of loyalty and a healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education;
  2. Employed as an adjunct instructor by Ogeechee Technical College;
  3. Have been employed for a minimum of three semesters within the last two years;
  4. Teach in a technical certificate of credit (TCC), diploma, degree, or adult education/GED program;
  5. Are in good standing with the College;
  6. Have not won the award in the past three years.

Support Staff of the Year Award 

This award recognizes and honors an outstanding employee who has made significant contributions to the mission and success of Ogeechee Technical College and brings attention to the importance of support personnel.

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a strong work ethic, a dedicated sense of loyalty and a healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education;
  2. Employed as a permanent, full-time Support Staff person with Ogeechee Technical College at the time of nomination;
  3. Have a minimum of two years of full-time service to the College;
  4. Are in good standing with the College; and
  5. Have not been the recipient of the award in the last three years.

*Support Staff is defined as employees who are not otherwise classified as faculty, dean, director, manager, or coordinator.


Leadership Award 

This award recognizes and honors an exceptional employee who has shown leadership in contributing to the mission and success of Ogeechee Technical College.

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a strong work ethic, a dedicated sense of loyalty and a healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education;
  2. Employed in a permanent, full-time position with Ogeechee Technical College at the time of nomination;
  3. Have a minimum of two years of full-time service to the College;
  4. Are in good standing with the College; and
  5. Have not been the recipient of the award in the last three years.

* Deans, directors, managers, coordinators and other management personnel are eligible for the Leadership Award. Members of the College’s Executive Council are not eligible for this award. 


Diamond Award 

This award recognizes and honors an exceptional employee who goes the extra mile and exemplifies excellence in such things as customer service, innovation, improved efficiency, a positive attitude, teamwork, community service and exemplary service to the College. The achievement must have been within the last two years. ALL employees of the College are eligible for this award – Faculty, staff, adjunct instructors, part-time employees and student workers.

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a strong work ethic, a dedicated sense of loyalty and a healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education;
  2. Employed in any position with Ogeechee Technical College at the time of nomination;
  3. Have a minimum of one year of service to the College;
  4. Are in good standing with the College; and
  5. Have not been the recipient of the award in the last three years.

* No one person shall win more than one award during a fiscal year. Members of the College’s Executive Council are not eligible for this award. Also, the application process will be different than the other categories. The nominee will not have to apply. Instead, the nominator will be asked to submit a short paragraph on why the nominee should be considered for the award.
