Program Purpose Statement
The mission of the Veterinary Technology degree program is to develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement in our graduates beginning with their ability to successfully pass the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Examination). Our goal is to demonstrate and expect excellent work ethics and utilize hands-on training of technical skills.
Program Goals
- Decrease attrition rates in the veterinary technology program to less than 50% from entry until graduation.
- To graduate at least 15 skilled veterinary technicians each year who have completed the program in a two-year time period from taking VET 101.
- To maintain the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA CVTEA) full accreditation as evaluated by annual and semi-annual reports to the committee.
- To increase enrollment of qualified students in the veterinary technology program even if total enrollment numbers decrease.
Program Level Student Level Outcome Goals:
- Veterinary technology students will retain course competencies throughout the program, e.g. competency retention as shown by 80% of them scoring 70% or better on a mock national board exam given at the end of their VET 230 Internship course.
- 100% of employers of veterinary technology graduates will be satisfied with their entry level skills e.g. competency attainment and retention.
- 90% of those graduating from the veterinary technology program and passing the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Exam) will be successfully employed in the veterinary technology profession.
- 80% of Veterinary technology program graduates will pass the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Exam) the first time they take it.
The Veterinary Technology degree Program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA)
