Ogeechee Technical College Introduces 5 a.m. Welding Classes to Better Serve Working Adults

Posted on Jul 09, 2026 at 12:27 PM

Ogeechee Technical College is expanding access to workforce training with the addition of early morning welding classes beginning this fall semester. The new classes, which start at 5 a.m., are designed to help working adults pursue career training before heading to their jobs.

The early morning schedule provides greater flexibility for students balancing full-time employment, family responsibilities, and educational goals. By offering instruction before the traditional workday begins, the college aims to remove scheduling barriers that often prevent working adults from completing credentials.

"We know many of our students are balancing work, family and other responsibilities while pursuing their education," said Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Tony Berrios. "These early morning welding classes were created in direct response to student feedback. By offering classes at 5 a.m., we're making it easier for working adults to gain the skills they need without disrupting their work schedules."

Welding continues to be one of the region's most in-demand skilled trades, with employers seeking qualified professionals across manufacturing, construction, fabrication, and industrial sectors. Ogeechee Technical College's welding program equips students with the hands-on training and technical skills needed to prepare for careers in the industry.

The addition of 5 a.m. classes reflects the college's ongoing commitment to meeting students where they are and responding to the evolving needs of both learners and local employers.

Students interested in enrolling in the early morning welding classes are encouraged to apply and register as soon as possible, as space may be limited.
