Agribusiness Students Gain Valuable Experience at Chatel Farms

Students from Ogeechee Technical College’s (OTC) Agribusiness program recently visited Chatel Farms, a subsidiary of FPL Food, L.L.C., in Reidsville, Georgia, as part of their Survey of the Animal Industry course. The visit, held on October 29, 2025, provided students with an in-depth look at one of the Southeast’s premier cattle operations and a comprehensive understanding of the biological, economic, and technological aspects of modern beef production.
“The experience offered a valuable real-world perspective on how innovation and sustainability are shaping the future of animal agriculture,” said Nicholas Cassell, OTC Agribusiness instructor. “Students greatly enjoyed the tour and appreciated the opportunity to engage with industry professionals who are leading advancements in Georgia’s cattle industry.”
Guided by Colin Matthews, Executive Vice President of Farm Operations, students toured the facility and learned about precision agriculture technologies, sustainable production practices, animal health and welfare management, and the agribusiness systems that support large-scale beef operations.
