Cathleen Brown of Statesboro has been selected to represent Ogeechee Technical College at the EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) Leadership Institute to be held in Atlanta. The Leadership Institute, a two-day event, recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs, and provides them with sessions to develop leadership skills. Stacy Davis, EAGLE Coordinator, said, “Cathleen will be an excellent representative of adult education and Ogeechee Technical College at the EAGLE Competition and Leadership Event in March.”

Brown, a Bulloch County native, says she enrolled in the Adult Education Program at Ogeechee Tech because she wanted to have a better life. Brown has logistics experience working with the military in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shortly after returning home from the military, Brown said she knew she needed to earn her high school credential to qualify for the advanced education and training required to continue to work in logistics. After completing her GED®, Brown plans to obtain an Associate of Science in Logistics degree at Ogeechee Technical College, and then transfer to a Bachelor’s degree program in Logistics Management.

Janice Case, the nominating instructor, said,” Cathleen Brown was nominated as an EAGLE delegate because of her leadership skills and her perseverance in setting goals and working hard to reach those goals. She is dedicated to succeeding in the Adult Education Program, to earning her GED®, and to furthering her education. She is a great example to everyone.”

Brown says the Adult Education Program is preparing her to be college and career ready by teaching her discipline, introducing her to new skills, and increasing her self-confidence. She says she appreciates the academic instruction she receives as well as the soft skills and digital literacy training that are part of the program. Brown says she no longer wants to sit on the sidelines and watch time and people pass her by. “I am pursuing my goals and dreams and feel strongly that Adult Education and the Technical College System of Georgia are giving me the skills and training that I need to be successful.”
