ECCE Partners with Statesboro Literacy Council to Install Book Nook

Ogeechee Technical College’s Early Childhood Care and Education program is excited to announce the addition of a new Book Nook to the Statesboro campus, generously donated by the Statesboro Literacy Council through the efforts of Crystal Simpkins. The Book Nook will be located on the patio outside of the Early Childhood Lab at the Joseph E. Kennedy Building at the front of the college.
The special literacy space will be stocked with books for young readers and features a reading bench, sidewalk chalk, and other creative activities for children and families to enjoy. The goal is to create a welcoming place where families can gather, read, learn, and explore together.
“Marianne Nordahl and I are excited to welcome this new initiative to our campus and provide additional opportunities for children and families to engage in literacy-rich experiences,” said Program Director, Paula Clifton. “We are really appreciative of Crystal and the Statesboro Literacy Council for investing in our community’s youngest learners!”
Ogeechee Tech will also be partnering with the Statesboro Literacy Council’s Book Bus and looks forward to hosting community events in the future to promote literacy and a love of reading.
Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
