Forklift Certification “Lifts” Hiring Potential of OTC Adult Education Students

Posted on Oct 08, 2019 at 13:37 PM

Adult Education and Continuing Education at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) partner up to provide an Integrated Education and Training (IET) opportunity for Forklift Certification to Adult Education students in Bulloch, Evans and Screven counties.

The IET program is a contextualized and congruent training that combines adult education, literacy, workforce preparation and workforce training. Sharon Ellis, an OTC Adult Education Instructor said, “The best part was watching students at various stages of their studies participate in this class. I saw their confidence levels grow as they gained mastery of the material and completed the hands-on portion of the training.” All 8 students that participated in last week’s IET opportunity completed the program and received their Forklift Certification. The combination of the certification along with a GED will open up new doors for the participants who completed this program.

According to Samantha Smith, Dean for Adult Education, “Adult Education programs state-wide know that we are tasked with far more than helping students obtain their GED’s. We are providing training that will allow them to successfully enter the workforce with the education and skills that will make them valuable employees.”

The next Continuing Education Forklift Safety Training will be open to the public and held October 28 and 29. Please visit www.ogeecheetech.edu/ce for more information on Continuing Education programs or call 912.871.1721 for more information about the Adult Education program.
