The Ogeechee Technical College Foundation recently held its annual scholarship luncheon in the Oak Room of the Natural Resources Building at the College. Forty students were recognized at the banquet for their academic achievement. In attendance were benefactors, students, Ogeechee Tech faculty and staff, scholarship committee members, and guests of the students.

Following a welcome from Matthew Sawhill, President of the Ogeechee Technical College Foundation, was an invocation by Dr. Bill Perry, remarks from two of the scholarship recipients, as well as comments from OTC President Lori Durden. The luncheon was concluded after each student was individually recognized and presented with a certificate for their scholarship.

The ongoing thread throughout the luncheon was that the scholarships mean more to the students than just financial assistance, it means bringing the school and the community together, and lasting change for entire families.

Robin Haven, the recipient of the Private/Home School Scholarship had this to say to those in attendance, “As you know, the Bahamas has been devastated… It is not easy being here and not there with my family – not only my parents, but my uncles, my aunts, my cousins – we have a large family. And I am so thankful that everyone is safe. But I can share with you, knowing that I have this scholarship, it has given relief to my family and myself knowing that I can further my education and that Ogeechee Tech is going to be here.”
