Posted on Feb 13, 2020 at 21:26 PM

To be reviewed for federal and state financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to list OTC’s school code, 030300, on the FAFSA. Complete the FAFSA by April 1st to be reviewed for the following fall semester.

Federal Aid

Ogeechee Technical College offers several types of federal aid which is referred to as Title IV aid. These programs are the Pell Grant, the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, and the Work-Study Program. To receive federal aid, students must be enrolled in a Title IV eligible program and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). On the FAFSA, list OTC’s institution code – 030300.

  • Federal Pell Grant: Students who demonstrate financial need, who are enrolled in a Title IV eligible program, and who have not received a bachelor's degree may qualify for this grant.  Eligibility is determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated using the information provided by the student/parent on the FAFSA. The amount of Pell ranges up to $6,195 per academic year.
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): Students who demonstrate extreme financial need may qualify for FSEOG. This federal grant is awarded based on the student’s EFC and the availability of funds. Eligibility is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Only students who are Pell Grant eligible may receive this grant. This fund is extremely limited and not all eligible students may receive funds.
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS): The Federal Work-Study Program provides employment for Title IV eligible students who demonstrate financial need. FWS gives students the opportunity to work in different environments. Positions are available on campus or in a community service position on a part-time basis. Students are paid no less than minimum wage and usually work up to 20 hours per week. Funding is limited as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Loans: Federal Direct Student Loans are not available to students at OTC. The College briefly offered federal loans but stopped participating in the federal loan program in Summer 2015. Currently, OTC’s cohort default rate (CDR) is 15.8%; the national CDR is 10.1%. Various measures are taken by the Financial Aid Department to reduce the default rate and to ensure students understand how to manage their debt and repay their loans.
