The Kelly Anne Wimberly Memorial Fund has been established with the Ogeechee Technical College Foundation to benefit students who have faced extreme challenges in their lives, and who have persevered to overcome those challenges to pursue their education at Ogeechee Technical College. Following her untimely death in 2011, Wimberly’s parents, Kay and Russell Wimberly, established a scholarship fund to assist students in continuing their education. Previously managed through private administrators, the funds were recently transferred to the OTC Foundation.

Wimberly graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University, and formerly worked as a teacher with the Bulloch County Board of Education. “Education was important to Kelly, and we know she would be proud to know students are being helped in her memory,” stated her mother, Kay Wimberly. Students at OTC may request assistance through the College’s Foundation in the form of scholarships and emergency assistance.  Contributions to the Foundation’s annual iGot (I Give to Ogeechee Tech) campaign, as well as endowments and designated gifts from organizations and individuals, such as the Wimberly family, fund that support.

“We are honored to accept this generous gift from the Wimberly family, and we know it will make a positive impact on the lives of students,” said OTC president, Lori Durden. “The financial assistance provided for students can help pay for a variety of expenditures, such as tuition, books, clinical related supplies, and emergency expenses.”

“We appreciate the thoughtfulness of the Wimberly family in providing this gift.  We want to honor Kelly’s legacy through the assistance we provide students,” said Durden. Members of Wimberly’s family and some very close friends were on hand at OTC for the presentation of the check.
