Medical Assisting Students Help with Health ScreeningMedical Assisting externs at Ogeechee Technical College assisted a local physician by performing wellness screens for carnival workers on October 23 at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair.

In an effort to combine real-life training and investment in the community, five students from Ogeechee Tech assisted the on-site physician with vitals, patient post-op instructions and conducting basic medical screenings. This service, provided at no cost to the carnival employees, is the perfect opportunity for students to get experience outside of the classroom and enhance their learning. “It was reassuring to see how our students can give back to the community by practicing what they are learning in their classrooms,” said Mallorie Morris, an Instructor in Medical Assisting.

This is not the first time the Medical Assisting program has participated in community screenings. On August 27th, Medical Assisting students went to Bulloch County Headstart to assist in health screens that included vision, hearing and blood pressure checks.
