Nursing Students Assist with Vaccinations

Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) Practical Nursing instructor, Jackie Howard, and OTC nursing students, assisted the Effingham County Health Department in administering influenza vaccinations to students and teachers in the Effingham County public schools. Howard said this is the ninth year Ogeechee Tech and the health department have teamed up and it is beneficial for both. “The students love this activity. We practice giving shots in the lab, and while there is some apprehension at first, students quickly become proficient and comfortable with giving injections. The health department is very appreciative for the extra help, since it would be difficult to give so many injections, with a limited staff, in a reasonable amount of time.” Howard said 1,940 Effingham County students and teachers received the flu vaccination.
