Funds Raised for Adult Literacy at Annual Golf Tournament

The Ogeechee Technical College Foundation in conjunction with Ogeechee Tech’s Adult Education program recently held a reveal announcing that $22,500 was raised at the annual J. David Russell Memorial Golf Tournament at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro.  

A total of 21 teams competed in this year’s golf tournament raising money for the college’s adult literacy programs in Bulloch, Evans , and Screven counties. The proceeds will be used to help pay for the cost of the GED exam for qualifying students and to provide Integrated Education and Training (IET) opportunities for students as well. 

“The funds raised will provide scholarships for testing and additional training opportunities for students which is key to their success as they pursue technical education and employment opportunities,” said Samantha Smith, Dean of Adult Education at Ogeechee Tech.   

In attendance to help with the reveal were TCSG State Board member, Tommy David, President of the Ogeechee Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees, Matt Sawhill, Ogeechee Tech President, Lori Durden, as well as other members of the OTC faculty, staff , and student body.    

“We would like to thank our many sponsors and tournament participants for their generosity in supporting what is a very critical mission in our community,” said Durden. “Literacy changes lives. We see it every day.”
