OTC Hosts Successful Back to School Blood Drive

Posted on Aug 31, 2026 at 13:39 PM

The Student Leadership Council (SLC) at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia on August 25, in the Oak Room of the Jack Hill Building.

The Red Cross team collected 32 units of blood during the event, coming close to its goal of 35. With each unit having the potential to save up to three lives, this effort could positively impact as many as 96 patients in need.

Student volunteers from several OTC clubs helped support the drive, including Cybersecurity, FBLA, Nursing, Rad Tech, SCNAVTA, and SLC.
To date, OTC has hosted 63 drives, collected 2,002 units of blood, and registered 2,315 total donors, averaging 32 units per drive.

"A single donation can make a lasting difference. Thank you to our donors for giving the gift of life,” said Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for VPSA.

Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
