OTC Hosts Successful Summer Blood Drive

The Student Leadership Council (SLC) at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia on June 10, in the River Room of the Occupational Studies Building.
The Red Cross team collected 24 units of blood during the event, successfully meeting the drive’s goal. With each unit having the potential to save up to three lives, this effort could positively impact as many as 72 patients in need.
Student volunteers from several OTC clubs helped support the drive, including SLC, Wildlife Club, SCNAVTA, and Radiologic Technology.
To date, OTC has hosted 61 drives, collected 1,944 units of blood, and registered 2,250 total donors, averaging 32 units per drive.
Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of Student Affairs, had a message for those who donated.
"The generosity of the donors has the power to save lives, offer hope to those in crisis, and strengthen communities in ways that cannot be measured. Because of them, someone gets a second chance today,” said Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for VPSA.
Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
