“It has been really great to work with local partners on this building project,” said Jeffry Roberson, a Construction Management Instructor at OTC. “The framing is on schedule and should be completed by the end of the spring semester and will provide ample opportunity for our students to get some hands-on experience outside the classroom.”

Last year before the pandemic put the project on hold, OTC students laid the foundation of the house and began framing the property. This month, students could be seen framing the walls and roof of the 4 bed, 2 bath home.

Though the current work on the house is limited to OTC’s Construction Management program, other Habitat builds often seek help from Ogeechee Tech’s Air Conditioning and Electrical & Industrial Systems Technology programs for skilled volunteer labor as well.

OTC Instructor Jeffry Roberson framing house with studentMarcus Toole, Community Outreach Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County, has worked closely with Ogeechee Tech through this and other construction projects.

“It’s a wonderful partnership that we have with Ogeechee Technical College,” said Toole. “It’s a win-win situation for both programs, OTC provides us with our largest pool of skilled volunteers while the students get to gain some valuable hands-on experience to pair with their coursework.”

Toole anticipates that construction on the house will be completed toward the end of 2021.
