OTC Students Earn Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals at State SkillsUSA CompetitionThe Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) SkillsUSA team won two gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, February 22-24.

“SkillsUSA provided us with a transformative experience competing in the Career Pathways Industrial and Engineering Technology competition,” said Hayden Lupton, Seth Warren, and Drew McNeely. “We were able to see new industry tech, advancements in construction, new heavy equipment, software, and other innovations in construction. SkillsUSA brings all walks of life together to prepare for careers in the trades.”

Ogeechee Technical College competed in seven categories winning gold medals in Cybersecurity and Career Pathways – Industrial & Engineering Technology, silver medals in Esthetics and Early Childhood Care and Education – Promotional Bulletin Board, and bronze in Early Childhood Care and Education. This is the second year in a row that both Cybersecurity and Career Pathways earned gold medals. OTC also fielded teams in the Cosmetology and Quiz Bowl categories.

“Ashley Ford, our ECCE competitor, has an impeccable work ethic, character, and exceptional curriculum planning skills. She worked tirelessly throughout the process to create and execute a creative, interactive, and rigorous lesson plan that earned her a bronze medal,” said Paula Clifton, ECCE Instructor and Advisor. “The Promotional Bulletin Board team, Temirra, Brittany, and Nyla created a detailed portfolio documenting the process from planning to implementation. They came together and presented to a panel of judges why technical education can benefit all students whether they are from a small rural town to the big city with, No Limits!

The students who competed at the conference had the opportunity to prepare resumes, network, and take exams as part of the experience. By earning gold medals, the Cybersecurity and Career Pathways teams will have the opportunity to compete in the national conference in Atlanta in June.
