Posted on Sep 22, 2020 at 17:42 PM

On Saturday, September 12, the Student Leadership Council (SLC) of Ogeechee Technical College sponsored the Statesboro Soup Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro.

The participants arrived and began preparing food at 9:00 a.m. and served meals of chicken sandwiches, chips, and cookies to over 300 people.

The SLC sponsors the event four to five times a year.  Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for the Associate VP of Student Affairs and staff advisor for SLC, has participated in the soup kitchen for years. “Volunteering at soup kitchens and food pantries is something I have done since I was a little girl,” said Snyder. “It has opened my eyes to the need in any community, big or small. I enjoy serving our community in this way.”

The Soup Kitchen is open from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. every Saturday for Service.

Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
