Work is underway on a solar installation project at Ogeechee Technical College’s Screven County Technical Education Complex on Rocky Ford Road in Sylvania. The project is funded by the Solar for Schools Program through the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority and the U.S Department of Energy. The project includes a large group of ground mounted solar panels, as well as solar covered tables with charging stations for students’ use, all installed by students in the Electrical Systems Technology program and Ogeechee Tech instructors. Instructors assisting with the project are Norm Threatt, Matt Peacock, Alan McDaniel, John Edwards, Shane Todd, and Jeffry Roberson. Construction Management students also assisted in the project. The project will give hands-on experience and allow the students to use the photovoltaic knowledge they acquire in the classroom to be a vital part of the completion of the project, as well as the maintenance of the system. Electrical Systems instructor, Norm Threatt, said, “The project will further prepare the workforce for sustainability through advanced training, implementation, configura tion, installation, inspection, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems."
