Pictured above are Radiologic Technology students, Raegan Nail and Hollie Zeigler, with an Optilift portable x-ray machine, recently donated to the College by St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Jan Martin, Program Director for Radiologic Technology, said this unit allows radiographers to go to the patient when they are too sick to travel to the x-ray department. She said this will allow she and fellow instructor, Matt Dunn, to teach/demonstrate portable radiography in the lab now. This newly acquired unit allows them to simulate patient interaction with the students in the energized lab. Martin states that portable exams are challenging even in the best situations and patient condition can be a tremendous hindrance. She said, “By having this machine, we can walk students through various scenarios in the lab in order for them to be more comfortable with the machine. Donations such as the portable unit benefit the students in so many ways.”
