On Saturday, January 31, the Student Leadership Council (SLC) at Ogeechee Technical College sponsored the Statesboro Soup Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro.

Volunteers from SLC, NTHS, FBLA, SkillsUSA, Student Veterans, and Out to Conquer (OTC’s gaming club) served 122 hot meals of Shepherd’s Pie, garlic bread, and cookies. Additionally, the group served 200 to go sandwich bags.

“When we serve together, we strengthen our whole community. I appreciate our faculty and staff who are willing to come out and serve together.” said Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for VPSA.

In addition to serving the meals, the group worked with other local volunteers to hand out clothing and hygiene supplies to visitors.
This was the first Saturday of the year that the SLC has sponsored the Soup Kitchen, with more to come. The Soup Kitchen is open from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. every Saturday for service.

Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
