Posted on May 03, 2022 at 16:47 PM

Radiology Tech StudentsSix Radiologic Technology senior students at Ogeechee Technical College were honored on April 21, 2022 in an annual pinning ceremony held in the Joseph E. Kennedy Auditorium.

Jan Martin, Radiologic Technology program director, welcomed everyone and recognized the clinical staff as well as the department managers that work with her students every day. “Our clinical preceptors and staff radiographers are true unsung heroes as they do what they do for our students without a monetary return. Our program is successful because of the guidance of our clinical staff,” said Martin.

The six seniors will sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national certification exam in the next few weeks. Three of the pin recipients are already employed at hospitals and urgent care centers while the remaining three eagerly await final confirmation from future employers.

Mr. Avery Acker, a Clinical Preceptor at St. Josephs Hospital in Savannah, was the keynote speaker and was chosen by the Rad Tech students because of his love and passion for his field and his positive attitude inside and outside the clinical arena.

“Mr. Acker lifts us up and encourages us every step of the way,” said one of the pin recipients.

The evening included several other highlights including awards presented to both students and preceptors. Madison Coleman, received the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Academic Award of Excellence, Kelcie King and Gracen Tillman were awarded Student Radiographer of the Year, Mikki Cheatham was chosen as Clinical Preceptor of the Year, and Amber Rivera was awarded Radiographer of the Year.

Matt Dunn, Clinical Coordinator, pinned all six recipients during the ceremony. The recipients included Julie Black, Emily Boswell, Madison Coleman, Kelcie King, Timothy Schultz, and Gracen Tillman.
