Dillon SmitheyDillon Smithey, an active member of Ogeechee Technical College’s Local Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), placed first in the Microeconomics Objective Testing competition held at the Georgia State Leadership Conference April 9-10, 2021.

At this year’s conference active members of OTC’s local chapter of the PBL had the opportunity to compete in multiple business style events.

“In 2020, we decided to bring back the local chapter of PBL to help Ogeechee Tech students prepare for the business world,” said Michael Twisdale the faculty advisor for the Local Chapter of PBL.  “We are helping to develop our students to become the leaders we know they can be and want them to be for our community.  PBL does that by allowing the members to step into a leadership role such as President, Vice President, etc. at the local, state and national levels and by focusing on community involvement and taking charge of their local chapter of PBL.”

Dillon will go on to compete at the National Leadership Competition from June 24 – 27, 2021.  He is currently a student in the Business Technology Program at Ogeechee Tech.

During competitions, PBL offers their members several types of competitive events that range from objective testing in the areas of Accounting Principles, Computer Concepts, Cybersecurity, Organizational Behavior and Leadership to presentations in the areas of Business Decision Making, Financial Analysis, and Human Resources Management.

“Participating in this event is a great way to get the students out of their comfort zone and compete in their preferred area of business,” added Twisdale.
