Twelve Radiologic Technology senior students at Ogeechee Technical College were honored on April 18, 2024, in an annual pinning ceremony held in the Joseph E. Kennedy Auditorium.
Kathleen Bombery, Dean for Academic Affairs, welcomed the guests on behalf of the College administration and thanked them for celebrating the Class of 2024.
Ken Durden, the nights keynote speaker, is a 2013 graduate of the Rad Tech program and serves as one its Clinical Preceptors at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
“The students chose Ken because of his love and passion for students and the profession,” said Jan Martin, Radiologic Technology program director. “He displays eagerness to share his knowledge and experience. His passion for radiology is contagious as he demonstrates his skills with energy and excitement.”
The evening included additional awards presented to the students and Clinical Preceptors. Emma Adair and Jennifer Nguyen received the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Academic Award of Excellence, and Taylor Mann and K.J. Rhodes were both awarded Student Radiographer of the Year.
“Every class gets to select the Clinical Preceptor and Radiographer of the Year,” said Martin. “The seniors chose the radiographers that exemplify passion and dedication for students and their profession. Both winners were chosen because of their positive attitudes and willingness to teach.”
Larry Rowley who works at Winn Army Community Hospital was chosen as the Clinical Preceptor of the Year, and Ken Durden was chosen as the Radiographer of the Year.
A special moment of the night took place when Diane Hendrix, a 2007 Radiologic Technology program graduate had the opportunity to pin her daughter Marissa Hendrix. This is the second consecutive year that a second-generation student has been pinned.
