“Winning the Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year award is incredibly humbling and validates what I've always
believed: that being a mentor to adult learners who are balancing so much in their lives is not just a job, but a calling.”

About the Rick Perkins Award

The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction, established in 1991, recognizes outstanding instructors within the Technical College System of Georgia who demonstrate excellence in teaching, innovation, and leadership. Named in memory of Thomas "Rick" Perkins, a former instructor at West Georgia Technical College, the award celebrates the dedication and impact of technical educators across the state. Each year, instructors are nominated by their colleges and advance through regional and state-level competitions. The state winner is named TCSG's Instructor of the Year and serves as an ambassador for technical education throughout Georgia.
