Selection Process
Ogeechee Technical College sets a specific number of admission slots for each competitive admissions program. All students who meet the minimum requirements for competitive admissions programs by the posted deadlines are entered into the selection process.
For the Practical Nursing program:
- Admission will be based on the TEAS scores
- Ranked Highest to Lowest
In the event of a tie: Highest Score from Anatomy & Physiology section of TEAS will be used to determine ranking
Required Prerequisite Coursework
As a mandatory part of the competitive admission process, each prospective LPN student must successfully complete EITHER:
The ATI Nursing Essentials Course
- Available in the OTC Bookstore
- Cost: $239
- Work at your own pace
Once a prospective LPN student pays the fee in the OTC bookstore, they will be added to a cohort. The student will then be able to complete the Nursing Essentials course at their own pace. All students seeking to be in the upcoming LPN cohort must successfully complete the Nursing Essentials course.
In order to receive credit, students must submit/upload their Certificate of Completion with their Interest Form for Competitive Admissions before the deadline.
OR
Submit Documentation of One of the Below:
- Allied Health TCC

- Degree
In order to receive credit, the students must submit/upload an official transcript showing completion of an Allied Health TCC, a Diploma, or a Degree program, as well as the completion date, with their Interest Form for Competitive Admissions before the deadline.
Aptitude Examinations
Applicants must complete the required aptitude exam and achieve the required minimum composite score of 60. More information on the required aptitude exam and helpful study information can be found on the Assessment Center webpage.
Students must take their aptitude examination in the OTC Assessment Center. Scores cannot be transferred in from external sources.
The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam is a standardized test used by Ogeechee Tech to evaluate candidates for potential admission into a competitive admission program. The TEAS exam is intended to gauge a student's achievement in a medical setting. The TEAS test covers reading, math, science, and English and language usage skills.
- TEAS exam scores will expire five years after the exam date.
- A student will be allowed three (3) testing attempts within a calendar year on the TEAS. The exams are given several times each semester and attempts can be scheduled 30 calendar days apart.
- TEAS scores from other schools will not be accepted.
- A student’s first attempt is $40, and a $65 re-test fee is required for each subsequent attempt. Students will be administered the entire exam during each exam attempt. All testing fees are non-refundable.
- A student may schedule, find out when the test is administered, and find helpful study resources by visiting the Assessment Center website. Study guides are also available in the Library
