Mary Betts Cotten Patriotism Endowed Scholarship
Dr. Doyice Cotten established the Mary Betts Cotten Patriotism Scholarship to honor his late wife. Mary was a strong advocate for higher education and held a firm belief that medical technicians, carpenters, mechanics, electricians, welders and other profession were needed for a healthy society. Mary was a world traveler and had a strong belief in freedom, and the free enterprise system. She understood that living in America, one is given many opportunities to succeed.
- Student must be in good standing with Ogeechee Technical College.
- Student must be enrolled or accepted in a degree or diploma program at OTC.
- Student must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Student must be enrolled in 6 hours or more of coursework.
- Preference given to student with high financial need.
- Recipient must be a U.S. citizen and a resident in Georgia’s 4th Senatorial District.
- When two scholarships are available, one will be awarded to a male applicant and one to a female applicant when there are qualified applicants representing each gender
- Recipient must submit a 300 to 500 word essay discussing 1) your personal career goals, 2) how completion of your chosen course of study at Ogeechee Technical College will help you achieve your goals, and most importantly, 3) in what ways does America and the free enterprise system provide opportunities for everyone to succeed.
- Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a male & female and paid in two equal installments of $500 for the Fall and Spring semesters.
