Health Sciences Competitive Selection

Acceptance to Ogeechee Technical College and selection into a competitive Health Sciences program cohort are separate processes. Admission to OTC does not guarantee selection into a competitive Health Sciences program cohort. For more information on the college admission requirements, click here.

Health Sciences Competitive Selection Programs

The following programs at Ogeechee Technical College require selection into a program cohort. This means that you can be admitted to the College but will have to complete additional steps to be considered for the specific program you are interested in. Each program has different selection criteria, and you should refer to the program website to learn more. If you choose one of these programs on your Application for Admission and are accepted to the College, your program of study does not reflect whether you have been selected for a program cohort.

Competitive Selection Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age before the start of program classes.
  • Applicants must submit the appropriate program-specific online Interest Form for Competitive Admissions.
  • Applicants must attend the appropriate competitive selection workshop within one year before the term of interest. Please be on time, as no students will be allowed to enter the room after the workshop has begun.
  • Applicants must complete and meet the posted program minimum grade point average (GPA) in all required prerequisite courses and be in good standing with the College. All courses must be completed with a “C” or better.
  • Applicants must take the appropriate Aptitude Test in the OTC Assessment Center.  Tests taken off-site will not be accepted.

  • Applicants must be free of any academic misconduct violations, such as documented plagiarism, cheating, or other violations of the OTC Student Code of Conduct.

Selection Process

Ogeechee Technical College sets a specific number of slots for each competitive selection program cohort. All students who meet the minimum requirements for competitive selection programs by the posted deadlines are entered into the selection process.

Helpful Hints

  • Make sure there is a current admissions application on file that is 100% complete and accepted.
  • Applications/Accounts must be clear with no holds (transcripts needed, old balances, etc.).
  • Make sure to use your legal name on all documentation. Your name on the Interest Form/Aptitude Exam Results/Workshop sign in must match what is on the admissions application.
  • Please do not wait until the last minute to sign up/register for/take your TEAS.  Our Assessment Center is open Monday – Thursday and space is limited.  
  • You can see what will be used to calculate your eligibility for our programs by going into DegreeWorks.
    • Test Scores – You will be able to see all of your aptitude test scores here. We will use the highest composite score.
      • Please allow 24-48 hours for your test scores to be entered into the system.  
    • We will not use the overall GPA shown in DegreeWorks.  Only the courses that are pre-requisites for your program will be calculated.
      • Grades that have transferred from another school will have a “TR” in front of the grade indicating that it was a transfer grade.  (Example: If a student earned a “B” in English 1101 at another institution, it would show in DegreeWorks as “TRB”)
      • Please note that if a student has received credit for a course but no grade, the course will count toward meeting the requirements but will not be calculated in the GPA. These will show in the system as Transfer Credit and will show only a grade of “TR”.

  • To access DegreeWorks:
    • Visit the Ogeechee Tech website
    • Click on Student Services
    • Then MyOTC & Blackboard
    • Choose DegreeWorks

Important Things to Note

The deadlines posted are firm deadlines.  Everything must be received before or on the deadline date.  Late submissions will not be accepted.  

We strive to maintain fairness and consistency for all applicants; therefore, we are unable to review competitive selection requirements individually prior to the deadline.
