On Saturday, July 13, the Student Leadership Council (SLC) at Ogeechee Technical College sponsored the Statesboro Soup Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro.
Volunteers from the SLC, Dental Assisting, and Nursing served 126 hot meals of pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn, garlic bread, and ice cream. The team served an additional 132 take out sack lunches of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
“Our Student Leadership Council does an amazing job creating opportunities for OTC faculty, staff, and students to get involved and give back to our local community,” said Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for AVPSA. “Connecting with the Statesboro Soup Kitchen allows us to step outside the classroom and make a real difference. It's all about building those important connections and serving our community together.”
This was the third of four Saturdays throughout the year that the SLC will sponsor the Soup Kitchen. The Soup Kitchen is open from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. every Saturday for service.
Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
