Meet the Faculty

Lisa Kagay, RHIA
Health Information Management Technology Program Director

Lisa Kagay grew up in Flushing, Michigan and received her Bachelor’s in Health Information Management from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. She received her Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential in 1994. She moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1993 where she worked for Memorial Health System in Health Information Management until 2000. In 2000 she began working as the Health Information Technology Program Director at Ogeechee Tech and received her MBA in 2003 from Georgia Southern University. Lisa and her husband moved to West Virginia in 2006, where she taught for Kaplan University and worked as a coder for Washington County Hospital. In 2008, her family moved back to Michigan where she has worked as a Utilization Review Manager and a Revenue Cycle Auditor for Ascension hospitals and Davenport University. In 2016, Lisa came back to work to Ogeechee Tech as a full time online instructor for Health Information Management Technology.

Lakesha Kinnerson, MPH, RHIA
Health Information Management Technology Program Director

Lakesha Kinnerson is a health information professional with over 20 years of experience in health care. She is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and holds micro credentials in Health Data Literacy and Health Literacy. She has a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and a Master of Public Health. Ms. Kinnerson is a volunteer with the American Health Information Management Association at the national and local levels and also the Institute for Healthcare Advancement. Her research interests include consumer informatics, health literacy, and health equity.

General Information

Health Information Management Technology (HIMT) is a non-clinical healthcare profession. Students are trained in a variety of health information management functions including: organizing, analyzing, processing and evaluating healthcare data; coding diseases, operations, and procedures; protecting patient privacy and providing information security; enhancing the quality of health record documentation; participating in the planning, design selection, implementation and support for information systems; and managing health information in an electronic environment. HIT professionals work in a multitude of settings throughout the healthcare industry.

Program Goals

Health Information Management Technology Degree

The program will provide assurance that the educational needs of students are met and that graduates demonstrate at least the AHIMA entry-level curriculum competencies.

The Health Information Management Technology accreditor of Ogeechee Technical College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for the Associate's degree in Health Information Management has been reaffirmed through 2029. Program Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Health Information Management Technology program is to provide educational opportunities to students that will enable them to achieve the knowledge and training necessary to obtain a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) credential and succeed in the Health Information Technology field.
